Training Experts to Drive Effective, Inclusive and Sustainable DRS Solutions
Earlier this month, Martin Valese and Kaisa Karjalainen hosted a webinar to introduce the DRS Academy, a learning platform created to train environmental experts and champions in the design and promotion of effective, inclusive and sustainable Deposit Return Systems (DRS).
During the session, they presented the mission and structure of the academy, which aims to equip participants with a comprehensive understanding of what DRS are (and what they are not), how they function in real-world settings, how to design context-appropriate systems, and how to advocate for them effectively.
The webinar also addressed frequently asked questions and provided a deeper look into the academy’s educational approach. Developed by the Mission Zero Academy, the learning model is grounded in the concept of productive failure. This is an innovative, learner-centered methodology that emphasizes active engagement and learning through exploration and challenge rather than passive instruction.
This approach is particularly relevant in the field of DRS, where success depends on thoughtful design, adaptability and understanding of local realities. By focusing on the learning journey rather than only the end result, the DRS Academy helps participants become not just informed but empowered actors for change in their regions.
More sessions and opportunities to join the DRS Academy community will be announced soon.
